Mission & Core Values
Building a Legacy of Integrity, Knowledge, and Strength
At the heart of the International Kajukenbo Association is a commitment to values that extend beyond martial training and into everyday life. Kajukenbo is not only a system of self-defense, but a framework for developing character, accountability, and lifelong excellence.
The Association is guided by six core values that shape its global family and define its legacy.
Core Values
Integrity
Integrity is the foundation of Kajukenbo. It represents honesty, ethical conduct, and accountability in action—doing what is right, even when unobserved. This principle ensures trust within the Kajukenbo community and upholds the Association as a model of upright conduct both inside and outside the dojo.
Knowledge
Kajukenbo values continuous learning. Knowledge encompasses technical mastery, historical understanding, and practical application. Through disciplined study and shared wisdom, practitioners gain confidence, insight, and the ability to adapt martial principles to real-world challenges.
Accountability
Accountability emphasizes personal responsibility and ownership of one’s actions. Members are encouraged to learn from mistakes, remain consistent in their commitments, and uphold their responsibilities to the Association and their communities.
Respect
Respect is fundamental to Kajukenbo culture. Every practitioner—regardless of rank or background—is valued for their contribution. This principle fosters an inclusive environment rooted in mutual understanding, discipline, and appreciation.
Trustworthiness
Trustworthiness strengthens the bonds within the Kajukenbo family. By honoring commitments and maintaining reliability, members cultivate lasting relationships built on confidence, support, and shared purpose.
Loyalty
Loyalty is the enduring bond that unites Kajukenbo practitioners across generations. It reflects dedication to the art, the Association, and the preservation of its traditions, ensuring that Kajukenbo’s values are passed forward intact.
Putting Values Into Practice
Education and Training
All classes, seminars, and workshops integrate character development alongside physical training. Instruction emphasizes discipline, resilience, and ethical decision-making as essential components of martial excellence.
Community Engagement
The Association actively engages with local and global communities through outreach programs, demonstrations, and events that embody respect, integrity, and service.
Recognition and Acknowledgment
Members who exemplify Kajukenbo values—both technically and ethically—are formally recognized. Achievement is measured not only by skill, but by conduct and contribution.
Feedback and Self-Assessment
Structured evaluation encourages ongoing self-reflection and growth. Members are guided to assess their alignment with core values, reinforcing continuous improvement in both skill and character.
A Living Legacy
Kajukenbo is a way of life grounded in integrity, knowledge, accountability, respect, trustworthiness, and loyalty. Through education, community engagement, recognition, and reflection, the International Kajukenbo Association maintains a standard of excellence that shapes not only martial artists, but leaders and mentors for future generations.
