Alvin Emperado Tribute
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alvin H. Emperado, a beloved member of our Kajukenbo and Emperado Ohana. Alvin departed peacefully on November 21, 2024, at the age of 73, due to cardiac arrest. He is survived by his daughter Maria and four grandchildren who reside in Texas.
Alvin, the second son and third-born child of Kajukenbo founder Sijo Adriano D. Emperado, began his martial arts journey at the age of seven in 1958, training alongside his brothers under their father's guidance. His youngest brother Ata fondly recalls being Alvin's favorite Uke. During his teenage years, Alvin chose to step away from martial arts training, favoring the waves and freedom of surfing instead.
After returning from his service in the Navy, Alvin had a heartfelt conversation with his father, which reignited his passion for Kajukenbo. His dedication led to significant achievements, including:
April 15, 1975: Certified Instructor of Kenpo-Karate by Sijo Adriano D. Emperado.
June 12, 1998: Promoted to Sifu, 5th Degree Black Belt with Red Trim, Kajukenbo Self Defense System, by Sijo Adriano D. Emperado.
June 15, 2002: Promoted to Sigung, 6th Degree Red with White, Kajukenbo Self Defense System, by Sijo Adriano D. Emperado.
Alvin will be laid to rest at Punchbowl in Honolulu, Hawaii, alongside his older brother. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, students, and all who knew and loved him. His legacy will live on within our Kajukenbo community.
With deepest respect and Aloha,
Kajukenbo Emperado Ohana
