ABOUT

Safeguarding the Legacy of Sijo Adriano D. Emperado

The Emperado Family Council serves as the guiding steward of the life, teachings, and legacy of Sijo Adriano D. Emperado, the founder of Kajukenbo. Rooted in Sijo’s vision of unity, discipline, and practical self-defense, the Council carries the responsibility of protecting his heritage for future generations, ensuring that the art he created continues to be practiced with integrity, respect, and fidelity to its origins.

Upholding KSDI — The Original Organization

The Council works closely with KSDI (Kajukenbo Self-Defense Institute), the official organization established by Sijo to preserve and promote his system. Acting as the family’s formal representative body, the Emperado Family Council safeguards the historical, cultural, and organizational identity of KSDI.

Its role includes:

  • Preserving the teachings, philosophy, and spirit handed down by Sijo.

  • Protecting the integrity of the KSDI name, crest, and lineage, ensuring they are used authentically and responsibly.

  • Providing guidance and continuity, so that future practitioners, leaders, and instructors inherit a clear and stable foundation rooted in Sijo’s wishes.

Protecting the Ohana

Kajukenbo was born from collaboration, brotherhood, and a deep sense of Ohana. The Council honors this origin by fostering unity within the global Kajukenbo community and by ensuring that the Emperado family’s role in the art remains respected. Their work includes:

  • Maintaining the historical record and cultural lineage of the Emperado family within Kajukenbo.

  • Ensuring that recognition, rank, and representation within KSDI are aligned with the founder’s standards.

  • Serving as guardians of the family’s legacy, so that all who practice the art can trace it back to its true source.

Stewardship for the Future

The Emperado Family Council is committed not only to preserving Kajukenbo’s past, but also to preparing it for generations ahead. Their stewardship ensures that Sijo’s creation—born in Palama Settlement and carried across the world—remains vibrant, relevant, and true to its purpose.

Through diligent protection, thoughtful leadership, and unwavering dedication to Sijo’s original mission, the Emperado Family Council stands as the foundation upon which the future of Kajukenbo continues to grow.
