History

Cynthia’s martial arts journey started in 2003 under Grand Master Doug Bailey, alongside her son Brandon. Together, they participated in local tournaments, which helped refine her skills in forms and sparring while strengthening their connection to the Kajukenbo community.

After the passing of GM Bailey, Cynthia continued her training under Grand Master Steve Larson. In addition to her own practice, she became his program director, bringing many new students into the school and community.

Following the loss of both her mother and Sifu Bailey, Cynthia opened Heritage Kung Fu & Tai Chi Academy in Chehalis, Washington. The school crest was influenced by her Back to the Roots training in 2013, when she visited the historic Palama Settlement and paid her respects at Sijo Adriano Emperado’s grave.

Her greatest challenge came during the COVID-19 pandemic, when she successfully kept her school alive through closures and restrictions. Today, she continues to serve her community with dedication, resilience, and respect for Kajukenbo’s roots.
