Ranking System?

I will be studying the Gaylord method soon, and I wanted to know what color belts the Gaylord Method uses? Is it the same as Original Method?

It's pretty rare that I see the use of the Orange belt, but with the kids there is the use of stripes.
My school has different ranks for kids and adults, same colors, but the kids have a stripe in between belts.

Hi Jake,

There are several uses within the Gaylord method in regards to colors of belts.

Great Grandmaster Gaylord allowed me to continue to use the ranks from when I was coming up through the ranks:  white, purple/white, purple, blue/purple, blue, green/blue, green, brown/green, brown, black/brown, black...    the mixed colored belts are either the top half one color, while the bottom half is the other color, or the left side of the belt is one color while the right is the other (all half ranks).

Which ever school you join is the correct ranking system, so if things are a little different at your dojo, its no big deal and should accept whatever the practice of your instructor.

when will you be starting Kajukenbo?   IMO, the sooner the better  ;)

in the old days early days 70s grand master vargas and great grand master gaylord went from white to purple but it was to much of a jump so they added white/purple but back then you had to sew two belts together and it was a pain so we just added orange belt it made it easier that way. plus it gave the kid more to look forward too.

I don't think it matters much as long as the order is the same so people with in the Gaylord system can have some reference...Gaylord used the ranks I mentioned the last I would guess 20 plus yrs.  He attending most of the rank promotions at my school and I traveled with him to see other tests and we had talked about it.

To each there own the school owner decides....I just try top keep it from looking like a Kenpo system or jujitsu system

Knowing GM Paz and his Professor (Lynn Case) I believe they use White, Orange, Purple, Blue, Green, Brown, Student Black, then degrees.  As was stated though it doesn't matter as I know they didn't do something like add a Red belt or put Blue before Purple or something like that.

I was talking to Professor Lynn a few weeks ago and am working to get out to Idaho this summer for a seminar with GM Paz, Prof Case, Sif Gary and others.  Looking forward to it and hope to meet you Jake.

Cheers,
Tim

the origanal kajukenbo belts were white, purple, green, brown, black. other belts were added later to break up the time in between promotions. regardless how you do it....white, yellow, and orange are beginning ranks, purple, and blue are intermediate, green is advanced. brown is unique and stands alone, more advanced then green yet not quite black. a make or break belt that generally requires some of a kajukenbo students toughest training. then of course the black belt. just my two cents.
