The moment you allow even the slightest bit of showmanship into a form, the pandora's box is opened and cannot be closed again. I have seen the same thing under the guise of traditional forms in Kajukenbo tournaments so we should not talk. Any time a form is executed without it's complete understanding  it is the same thing only less flashy. And who knows what?

Useless? Perhaps, but he doesn't delude himself into thinking he can beat people with it like the kiai Master.

its very nice for a open kata, but if you realy paid attention it was short and not much form. things have changed i remember in the 70s when george chung did a cart wheel with no hand the place went crazy. so they opened a open kata thats where it all started from. but agin george chung was allso becoming the number one forms comp. in the us at that time so you guys can thank mr chung for starting the open forms div. but a good judge for kata grandchampoin should be able to look past the flash and see the form and tec. you should be able to pick out the true grandchapoin of the day. also remember its only for kata it wont work on the street, the old saying what ever goes up must come down into the arms of a kajukenbo man then you guess the rest ( smile)
