Boxing (american )in Kajukenbo
« on: July 16, 2006, 10:05:00 PM »

  Hello

Whats the part of the bo for boxing (american) in kajukenbo ?

The boxing is a very good punch style with Jab .cross hook and so on...and probably a very good core  forother techniques...we just have to change thejab for finger jab or panther fist and adds some kind of long range punch
for hook  like the sao choi (of Choy lay fut) ..... for exemple
But boxing is a very eeffective style

I just give some for explain mypost....

Dont know where to post it so I choice the history....

American (western) boxing does offer some great skills sets.  It is a integral part of the training at my school.
It teaches you to keep your hands up.
It teaches you to take a punch and keep fighting.
Footwork with balance for mobility.
How to generate power with a hand strike using body motion.
Defense skills with the ability to counter.
Cardio.
Plus if you do it long enough, you get a great looking nose.....

We practice boxing because of the saying, "Everyone has a plan until you punch them in the mouth." We want to be the guy punching the other guy in the mouth!

Why does Ester have to wear pink gloves? I don't mind getting a pounding now and then, but not from someone wearing pink gloves. That's just wrong!

I like it!

We have an old saying too.  "Even the best plan, is only good until the first round is fired",

 Howdy

from a history point of view

what or who brought Boxing to kajukenbo....Marino Tiwanak was a boxer ...sijo came from a boxing family...

Does we have some boxing combos and basics in whaterver the branch of Kaju curriculum....or its free to the instructor to teach some

I could see theAlphabet from Prof Powell DVD....its counter are again a boxer and the use of some classical boxing strike...

by the way a reverse punch is a cross punch (boxing)

Hope to be understood sorry for my english but I practiced hard: ;)

  Thank u

I mean its the same with some variations.....one is traditionnal punch (Karate ,Kung fu or whatever) the idea to start from the hip his from the pullin u do to ur hip from a grabbing and reverse motion to add power ...anyway I agree with U

   Have a good day

So brother John, is that to say that as we shift into a forward stance and fire the reverse punch, it is almost the same thing as pivoting the foot over from a balanced fighting stance even though the the cross is fired with the rear leg bent and on the ball of the foot, and the reverse punch is fired with the rear leg locked and heel on the ground ( traditionally ).... Same thing only different, but one might work a little better than the other ?.. ;)

Here is how I choose to use the BO in Kajukenbo....
 - Western boxing
 - Thai boxing
 - Chinese boxing ( JKD )
 - with of course a little Filipino dirty boxing...  ;)

And away we go..................    ;D

I was thinking about it Deano and true sometimes different things can bring the same results...
Ex.....beers, a fine martini, a great old bourbon, some better then others, some better at different times then others depending on the circumstance.
But if you use them all aggressively and with the right attitude you can get a very similar results.
Hopefully none of them involve loosing a limb....

Yep....
Sometimes you get the same result and your head hurts a little more, or less in the morning.. ( Both depend on how many shots you take. )  :o

They all have the capability of getting the job done, just some do it better, with less after effects.. But usually regardless, you get better with practice...
