I thought it would be appropriate for my first post on this forum to be in this thread about Grandmaster Emil Bautista.

I started in Kaju system in the early 1980’s under Master Sifu Purvis who was one of Grandmaster’s students out of Vallejo. Over the years I had the pleasure of meeting Grandmaster several times and also attending a few classes at the Vallejo school.
Quote
Since that day I have always been impressed with the humility and friendliness that this man displays toward everyone he meets.
That is so true! I have always felt “better” for having spent any time with him. Often he left me with a “grandfatherly” feeling. Despite his rank, expertise, and years of knowledge in the art he has always treated me with respect and kindness. He observed every one of my promotions from purple to brown and for that I am quite thankful for.

Now that Rob Peladeau has moved into my area I will be picking up Kajukembo again after being AWOL for about 20 years. I don’t think it will come as easy as it did when I was 25, but I am still looking forward to it. :)

Blessings on you and your family Grandmaster. :)

James,
IF you are going to be training under Sigung Peladeau, remember this word "PAIN!" You will earn every bit of what you get and it will be worth every minute. Enjoy.

I agree Prof. Powell - Sigung Rob is the real deal- he doesn't hold back.

James, my advice don't ever eat before class and make sure to breath. Enjoy.

Thank you all. I am overwhelmed by the generosity of Grand Master Wolf Hillshein, his instructors and students, the entire Gold Cup family and everyone here today.

It amazes me that someone would want to honor me just for doing something that I love. And it surprises me that I have been at this for so many years. It truly seems like yesterdsy when I first walked into Aleju Reyes class at TAFB and began training in kajukenbo and it certainly doesn't feel like 40 years ago that I first opened the doors at the Benicia Rd school in Vallejo.

If it weren't for the countless friends I have in the arts, people who over the years, have inspired me to continue in my search for knowledge, if it weren't for the dedicated and loyal black belts instructors I have, the student, parents, and family members who believed that the knowledge I had to offer was worthwhile, then I would not be here today, 45 years later still doing something that I love.

But since there are so many friends, instructors, students, parents, and family members here today, and many more who could not attend, I feel blessed to have been allowed to continue doing what I love and I am honored that all of you could be here today to share it with me.

  THANK YOU

I have no  official record of when I started martial art (Kajukenbo) I think it was early 60's with Aleju Reyes on Travis Air Force Base for a few month then joined Tony Ramos.
I have an ID card with the expiration date 6-15-64 (White belt)
A purple belt membership card with the expiration date 3-24-65 also a certificate with the same date and rank sign by Tony Ramos, Joe Halbuna, Charlie Gaylord. under Kajukenbo Self Defence Institute of Las Angeles (Dodai)
I passed over my blue belt but received a  green belt on 11-27-64 sign by Tony Ramos, Joe Halbuna, Charles Gaylord and Manuel (Sidai)
Received my brown belt 7-23-65 under the Kajukenbo Self Defense institute of Fairfield sign by Tony Ramos, John Ramos, Charlie Gaylord, Joe Halbuna and Calvin Shin (Sihing)
I blacked in 6-12-66  under which was called then KSDI signed by Tony Ramos, Charles Gaylord and Joe Halbuna (Sibok)
1st degree May 22nd 1967 by Tony Ramos, Joe Halbuna, Charlie Gaylord and Al Dacoscos under the KAA seal. (Sibok)
4th degree perform for then professor Adriano Emperado in Redwood city but under KNF. on 10-1-69 (Sifu)
5th degree 3-13-74, (Sifu)
6th degree 3-27-77,  (Sigung)
7th degree 3-28-82 all under KNF. (Tai Sigung)
was terminated from KNF in 8-2-83
Received a 5th degree from Sijo dated 9-15-74 which I decide to give up the KNF ranks and go under Sijo and the rank and blessing he gave me KSDI (Sifu)
6th degree 3-19-84 KSDI (Sigung)
7th degree 6-19-88 KSDI (Tai Sigung)
8th degree 6-15-89 KSDI (Associated Professor)
9th degree 11-13-93 KSDI (Professor)
9th degree 6-15-99 KSDI (Grandmaster)
Have never trained in any other art but Kajukenbo. I have dab with the stick a bit.

This may be a guide on how long a council of grandmasters (Senior) should have, give or take a few years. But really there are only a handful of us and there are the ones who retired or was oozed out by Sijo. Hope this information helps
