Greetings everyone,
How are you?
Hope all is Ok with you.
Recently i read that GGM Al Novak studied kajukenbo.
I was really happy if someone can tell me something about his kajukenbo training and who his instructors were.

He  studied Gung Fu under Jimmy Lee in the Oakland area.
I don't know of any Kajukenbo roots for him.

Although Al Novak isn't a Kajukenbo man as far as I know, he did rub shoulders with a lot of "old heads" from back in the day.  There are two interviews with Novak that you should read.  they are:

Sutton, Alan. "Al Novak's East Wind Kung Fu Club" in Inside Kung Fu[/u]. Jaunary 1975, Volume 2, #2: 8-11.

Shively, Rick. Al Novak's Kung Fu: It's the Real Thing in Inside Kung Fu[/u]. April 1977, volume 4 #2: 20-23.

Novak started studying with James Yimm Lee in 1959.  At the time he was 58 years old!  That would make him around 87 now...He also took instruction at T.Y. Wong's Kwoon at Waverly Place in San Francisco.  It's a shame more has not been written about him (or by him!) recently.  These men will not be with us forever.

Take Care,

Since GM Al Novak is a long time Kajukenbo "Advisor" I would be glad to post his bio.  I'm sure in the past I've requested bio's on the Kajukenbo advisors like GM Ming Lum, Master Mike Young, and GM Novak.
If anyone has bio's on these 3 gentlemen, please email them to me.
