Dacascos vs. Sotelo
« on: December 05, 2010, 05:45:00 AM »
Group,

I've recently learned that, in 2009, Al Dacascos: (1) arbitrarily rescinded Ted Sotelo's Kajukenbo certificates (some dating back to the 1960's) after an argument over Kajukenbo politics; and (2) then stated any further input must be sent to his attorney.  I was just wondering what you guys think about that.

Any information, comments, or opinions would be muchly appreciated.

VBR,

Pat

I suppose that would be between GM Dacascos and GM Sotelo.

Well at the risk of getting in trouble again,
I will say that GM Sotelo is one of the most talented and versatile martial artist that I know.
He is willing to share and help anyone that asks him.
GM Sotelo and GM Dacascos were close and worked together for the first KOA event.
Do to disagreements about how things were being set up there was a separation between them.
Things got ugly after that and there were some slanderous letters written about GM Sotelo and myself.
I disproved all that was written about me and GM Sotelo confronted GM Dacascos personally at the second KOA meeting in Long Beach
In front of all the Grandmasters in attendance
That meeting was also recorded on video
After that GM Dacascos posted a letter saying that anything further would be dealt with by his lawyers from that point on.
I think anything that has to do with our Grandmasters is our business.
How they conduct themselves and what they say in public is a reflection on all of Kajukenbo.
We need to know what kind of leaders we are following or not following no matter who they are.
This was put to rest here on the café to avoid any lawsuit to the café and all should be very careful with anything that you say.

As I remember, personal issues between named individuals are not what this forum is about.  I know and get along with both of the people involved.  As far as I am concerned, it is a big shame that there might be problems, but I don't see how talking about them here is going to help things.  Hopefully they can work it out.  If not, well we have seen that happen before with others too.  I would like to stay out of it, but since I am GM Dacascos' student, all I can say is let's try to keep it civil.  Most people are not in the place that they are aware of all of the facts, or the whole story.

Personally, I think that this entire thread should be deleted. I don't see good coming from it.

Group,

I’ve let this thread sit until you’ve all had time to reply.  Now, I’ll sum things up.

Sifu Al’s public disclosure on this subject was sent to me by one of this group’s senior members.  I inquired here to learn how the issue was perceived by the Kajukenbo community.

By heritage, I do have the right to make such an inquiry; and my intent was benevolent.  But most of you don’t know me, so I understand your wanting to protect Al and Ted (and this website) from what apparently seemed like malicious activity.

This is your forum.  If you want to make a topic off limits, I respect your right to do so.

However, I didn’t know the subject was kapu when I began this thread.  Now I do.  Pau already.

VBR,

Pat
